What you get with DownTwitter
A small tool that does one job and stays out of your way.
Highest quality
When a tweet offers several sizes of the same video, we pick the one with the highest bitrate.
Videos and GIFs
Twitter GIFs are really short MP4 files, and that's what you get — they play anywhere.
Full-size photos
Tweets with pictures show a gallery, and each photo can be saved in its original size.
Both domains
Links from twitter.com and x.com work the same way, including mobile links.
Any device
iPhone, Android, Windows, Mac, Linux — if it has a modern browser, it works.
No account, no storage
You don't log in to X, and files pass straight through to your device instead of being kept on our side.
A Twitter video downloader without the clutter
DownTwitter turns a public tweet link into a file you can keep. Paste the link, check the preview and download the video as MP4. There's no daily limit and no pop-ups.
People use it to keep a clip offline, save their own posts, or reuse their own footage in another app.
What you can save
- Tweet videos in the best quality listed
- GIFs as small MP4 files
- Photos in full size
- A preview and the tweet text before you download
Only public tweets can be downloaded. Protected accounts and tweets that need a login are not available.
Saving Twitter videos on your phone or computer
Where the file ends up depends on your device.
iPhone & iPad
Open DownTwitter in Safari and tap the download button. The file lands in the Files app, under Downloads. To get it into Photos, open it, tap Share, then Save Video.
Android
Chrome and most other browsers save the video to your Downloads folder. A moment later it usually shows up in the gallery too.
Windows, Mac & Linux
Click the download button and the file goes to your browser's Downloads folder. If a video opens in a new tab instead, right-click it and choose Save video as.
If something doesn't work
These are the usual suspects.
It says the video wasn't found
The tweet was probably deleted, comes from a protected account, or has no video. Make sure the link opens in a browser where you're not logged in.
It asks me to try again
The service occasionally slows down or refuses requests. Wait a minute and try once more — most of the time that does it.
There's no video, only text
Only the tweet you link to is checked. If the video is in a quoted tweet or a reply, copy the link of that tweet instead.
Questions people ask
Is DownTwitter free?
Yes. There's no limit on downloads, and you don't need an account or an app.
How do I download a video from Twitter?
Copy the tweet's link, paste it into the box at the top of this page and press Download. The video button appears under the preview.
Does it work on iPhone and Android?
Yes, in any modern browser. On iPhone, use Safari — the file is saved in the Files app and you can move it to Photos from the share menu.
Does it work with x.com links?
Yes. Links from x.com and twitter.com are both supported.
Can I save a GIF?
Yes. Twitter stores GIFs as short MP4 videos, so you'll get an MP4 file that loops in most players.
Why does it say the tweet wasn't found?
Deleted tweets, protected accounts and tweets without media can't be downloaded. Check that the link opens in your browser without logging in.
Do you keep my links or videos?
No. Files stream through to your device and aren't stored on our side. The privacy page has the details.
Is it legal to download Twitter videos?
Saving a video for your own offline viewing is generally fine, but the video still belongs to its creator. Don't re-upload or sell content you don't own, and follow the copyright rules where you live.
